I've been mulling over building my first AR-15 for a bit now and finally started diving into parts. There seems to be some decent deals around if you look hard enough, but honestly, I'm still wrapping my head around what's actually worth it and what's just hype.
I'm thinking of a basic rifle build to kick things off. Probably going with 5.56 since it feels like a good starting point, but I'm open to any better suggestions if anyone has them.
Are there brands I should steer clear of? I hear mixed things, and it's hard to figure out which ones are legit and which ones are just junk. Also, what hidden costs should I be on the lookout for? Are there typical rookie mistakes you made that I should avoid?
Part of me wonders if I should just buy a complete rifle instead of piecing one together. But I really want to try building one.
I'd appreciate any insight you all have, even if it's just the lessons you learned the hard way. Thanks in advance!
