I had a bull elk yell like crazy, like thirty yards away in some thick woods. My hands got all shaky, I started breathing real slow, and it felt like time was moving funny. Every sound was loud, every step felt heavy and I was pretty sure the elk could hear my heartbeat. Somewhere in there I also realized I hadn’t blinked in about a minute. That adrenaline dump hit hard and yeah, I needed a minute afterward to remember how legs work.
