Started a new tradition that's now bigger than the old ones

Five years ago we randomly decided to drive around looking at lights on Christmas Eve instead of our usual boring dinner, now it's the highlight of the season and everyone looks forward to it more than anything else. Anyone else accidentally create a tradition that took over? How'd it start?

We started playing cards with no phones allowed and ended up laughing more than normal. but right now we turn off the lights on purpose one night every year and just keep it simple.
